The Sea Food (part two)

This week, I want to introduce a sea food, something you may think strange but I love it very much. The puffer normally looked long and has two big eyes and big lips ahead. It swims by its two small short fins and looked cute. It has thorns all around its body, but it’s not dangerous “in normal situation”. When facing danger, the puffer will immediately suck the water and air into its stomach, then the puffer will swell very fast and in the end, looks like a ball with the thorns all around it.

                                           Normal look:

Facing danger:

But actually, the puffer has very strong virulence. So why can it be a delicious food? There are still some puffers have no virulence, but very little. The point is, the poisonous puffer just has poison in specific position, generally the internal organs. So if you want to try it, you had better turn to the specialized cook!

And a very simple but delicious way to eat it is sashimi (Just the skin, not the meet.) The puffer’s skin is very thick and al dente. Just cut the skin into long narrow pieces and eat it with soya sauce mixed with the garlic, a delicious food is done!

The sea food (part one)

This week, I want to introduce some delicious seafood that I have tasted before and what I would like to recommend it to you. The spiral shells(鐘螺) are not so easy to get so that it’s a little bit expensive(they were very much long time ago, but people over-catch them so they become very precious now). We often boil it with pure water when it is still fresh, but the follow skill is the key about whether you can eat it or not. Because its special shape, the meat is very deep in the shell and being the shape of a big spiral. So, we have to work hard to knock it on clockwise, so the meet will gradually slide out then you can eat it. The meet chewed very firm texture, and taste a little sweet with a special taste that only belongs to very fresh sea food (sorry I have no appropriate adjective to describe such a delicious taste.) And there is another thing that you have to notice. In the end of the shell meat, there is a long blackish green stuff attaching on it, and you have to remove it before you eat because it taste bitter (it’s the internal organs of the spiral shell.).

Chi-May (last part)

In the last part of Chi-may, I will introduce two parts of it. One is Little Taiwan(小台灣) and the other is Waiting Husband reef(望夫石). The small Taiwan is a very special terrain eroded by the sea. The shape of it is just like the real Taiwan, so many tourists come here to take a look of The small Taiwan every year!

 picture resouece: http://www.phsea.com.tw/travel/index.php/%E5%B0%8F%E5%8F%B0%E7%81%A3%E7%85%A7%E7%89%87%E5%B0%8E%E8%A6%BD

Long time ago, most males in Chi-May made their living by going fishing on the sea. It’s a very dangerous work. So, many people never come back and because of that, Chi-May was called The island of widows. Legend has it that there were a loving couple living there happily.Whenever the husban went fishing on the sea, the wife would stand on the seashore, waiting for him to  come back. But the wife didn’t give up to waiting, she never left there and at last, she died. The villagers buried her by the coast and strangely, a stone by the coast gradually become the shape of a pregnant woman, and people then consider it as the waiting wife.

From left to right is the head, the breast, the pregnant belly and the feet!

Chi-May (part two)

Last week, I introduced Chi-May Tomb to you. This week, I am going to introduce something more about Chi-May! That is – the Twin hearts Stone Tidal Weir (雙心石滬)! It’s a stone tidal weir which shape was built into twin hearts.

picture resource:

You may wonder that, what’s the stone tidal weir? The stone tidal weir is a very intelligent gadget designed by our ancestors to catch fish. They collected a lot of stones and then piled them up into circle. But why the fish would be stuck in the stone tidal weir? That the most smarted part of the design! The ancestors left a gap that is formed by two lines that is bent in the circle. So, when the tide rises, lots of fishes will follow the water and flow into the stone cycle. But when the tide ebbs, the fish keep stay in the stone circle until the tide ebbs to a very low level, they want to swim out but just got stuck, so the human beings just wait for the ebb tide and come to catch the fish!

Chi-May(七美) (part one)

This week, I’m going to introduce Chi-May(七美), which located on the south part of Penghu. And I will put the point on the special natural scenery. The first interesting place is the Chi-May tomb(七美人塚), which was built in memory of seven beautiful girls. When it was Ming-dynasty(明朝),  There were many pirates often attacked there. One day, when the male residents all left for fishing, the pirates came. Most of the females, the children, and the old people hide into the cave in time, but it’s a pity that there were seven girls they didn’t made it to rush into the cave. So, they were found and surrounded by the pirates. The pirates wanted to offense them. And the seven girls, determining to guard their chastity, committed suicide by jumping into the well. When the residents came back, it had been too late. So, to commemorate these seven girl’s spirits, the residents filled the well with the soil, and built a tomb on it. There is one more thing magical about the tomb. After the tomb was built, seven trees germinated on it. So, people believe that the trees are the seven girls’ spirits, and they will live forever. That’s my introduce about Chi-May this time, next time, I will introduce more spots of Chi-May, I hope you will like it!

Shou-men(小門)

Last time, someone suggested that I can introduce some delicious food. So, this week, I am going to introduce Shou-men(小門), which I think has very special and delicious food. Shou-men got its name because on the east side of the village lay a rock with a small interstice through which the residents used to come in out, just like a natural small door, that’s why people call it Shou-men. The most popular spot in Shou-men is The Whale Hall(鯨魚洞), it’s a hall erosioned by the sea, and the shape of the hall looks like a big whale, that’s why people call it The Whale Hall. The last but not the least, the food! There are many yummy food, but there is one thing that I never leave there without eating it. The first one is the cactus ice cream mix with the melon ice cream, the cactus taste a little bit sour and the melon taste sweet, the two thing mixed taste really wonderful!

吉貝

Hi everyone. This week, I am going to introduce Gi-bay(吉貝), where i grew up. It is a very small island with the sea around it, and it't over the north part of Penghu(澎湖). Its most popular tourism spot is a very wonderful and long beach which called Shaway(沙尾), it get the name because when you look from up to down,it looks just like the tail of the island. The residents there largely make their living from tourism. The most popular tourism activity is water sports(水上活動), such as sorkeling(浮潛), banana boat(香蕉船) (Don't be doubtful,it's really a big banana what you sit on) and so on. It's really a beautyful place where you can forget all your worries and have a lot of fun, so next time, if you have a chance to go there, don't miss it!
