This week, I’m going to
introduce Chi-May(七美), which located on the south part of Penghu. And
I will put the point on the special natural scenery. The first interesting place is the
Chi-May tomb(七美人塚), which was built in memory of seven beautiful
girls. When it was Ming-dynasty(明朝), There were many
pirates often attacked there. One day, when the male residents all left for
fishing, the pirates came. Most of the females, the children, and the old
people hide into the cave in time, but it’s a pity that there were seven girls
they didn’t made it to rush into the cave. So, they were found and surrounded
by the pirates. The pirates wanted to offense them. And the seven girls,
determining to guard their chastity, committed suicide by jumping into the
well. When the residents came back, it had been too late. So, to commemorate
these seven girl’s spirits, the residents filled the well with the soil, and
built a tomb on it. There is one more thing magical about the tomb. After the
tomb was built, seven trees germinated on it. So, people believe that the trees
are the seven girls’ spirits, and they will live forever. That’s my introduce about
Chi-May this time, next time, I will introduce more spots of Chi-May, I hope
you will like it!

I went to Penghu with my family maybe four or five years ago. It was a fantastic memory! We didn’t visit all the islets in Penghu, but we went to Chi-may on that tour. I still remember the story of Chi-may tomb. It impressed me a lot! The scenery of Twin Heart Stone Weir is breathtaking, how amazing is ancestors’ wisdoms! That trip to Penghu was a phenomenal and momentous memory!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful story! It reminds me of a mountain called “beauty mountain” behind my grandma’s house. My grandma lives in a Chinese village in Thailand. When I was little, I went to visit my grandma every summer vacation. Grandma told me that once upon a time, there was a newly-wedded couple who loved each other very much. However, the war separated them. In the end, the pregnant wife couldn’t find her husband and was killed. Legend has it that the place where she was killed became a mountain, and her unborn child became a monkey. Therefore, “beauty mountain” also called “monkey mountain”. Nowadays, tourists come to “beauty mountain” not only to visit the beautiful temples but also to have a look for those cute monkeys. I miss Thailand so much! >< I was like my second hometown.
